Our client is looking to recruit a experienced Shift Manager for the Day Shift, working a 4 on x 4 off pattern, 06:00 - 18:00 hours. Previous experience working within the food manufacturing industry would be an advantage. This is a new role within the business, and so the individual can help define it, playing a key role in taking the site to the next level and into a best-in-class manufacturing facility.
Reporting to the Production Manager, the core focus of this role is to lead a team of Shift Leaders and Production Operatives across both manufacturing departments. You will lead the production teams and administration support staff to deliver key outputs to ensure optimal operational efficiency at lowest cost through the delivery of KPI’s: HSE, FSQ, Cost, Delivery (MSA) and People.
Priorities and Opportunities
Driving success to achieve site performance improvement plans, through the delivery of individual and team improvement projects and objectives.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead and promote activities to reduce costs and enhance efficiencies.
- Deliver the activity plan, whilst supporting the financial budget.
- Drive employee engagement through coaching and development of our Shift Leaders, make sound decisions and lead by example by following business policies & procedures.
Full accountability for shift performance on the MGR site. This encompasses delivery against all KPIs including Health & Safety, Food Safety, Quality, Waste, OEE, team 1-2-1’s, NCR and audit close-outs, adherence to plan, absence management. The role will require some flexibility to support operations, including out of hours where necessary given we’re a 24/7 operation.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- To promote a culture of positive people and food safety behaviours within your team, demonstrate strong leadership and address unsafe behaviours and working practices through active coaching techniques with your direct reports.
- Delivering results by taking ownership and accountability for managing shift operations and resources to ensure the production plan is achieved efficiently.
- Measuring, maintaining, reporting, and acting upon key performance indicators both within the team, and the manufacturing. Leads the daily SOM meeting.
- Ensure that self and others are adhering to Safety Management Systems and acting in a safe manner to protect the health and safety of all within the operation.
- Promotes a culture of continuous improvement across the site, develop data led insights and hands-on analysis, problem-solving and improvement of all production processes, methods, and specifications.
- Strong active management skills to develop a motivated, engaged and high performing team, supporting the development of Shift Leaders and Multi-skilled Operators through coaching and training.
- Manage all aspects of the team recruitment through to induction and individual training plans.
- Provide leadership for HSE and food safety across the teams and positively influence the progression of a behaviour-based safety and food safety culture. Upholding people & food safety of self and others as a number 1 priority.
- Ensure that your shift remains audit ready for internal and external 3rd party audits including SML, ERM, all retailers and legislative bodies. In liaison with the support functions complete gap analysis required against standards and ensure appropriate action plans are in place.
- Deliver and promote operational best practice, actively participate in contingency planning and risk identification, management, mitigation or removal.
